Tim is the 15th Lead Pastor of First Pres since 2016, inaugural Director of the PREACH Initiative at Taylor University, and a member of the board of COS I Love You. He serves this ministry as the primary preaching voice, spiritual leader, and visionary shepherd, prodding us to walk more closely with Jesus, the Chief Shepherd and Head of the Church. Tim came to Christ through Young Life in middle school here in Colorado Springs, was ordained in 1999, and has served as a campus minister, youth minister, U. S. Army Chaplain, and professor, but his true love is sharing the Word of God with a congregation of believers and seekers to see the Spirit move hearts to glorify God. Tim has degrees from Northwestern, Princeton, Oxford, and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. He is the author of two books: Illumination in Basil of Caesarea’s Doctrine of the Holy Spirit (Fortress Press) and Happy Church: Pursuing Radical Joy as the People of God (IVP). He is married to Abigail, a Pennsylvania native, who partners with him in ministry at First Pres and in town. They have four children, one still at home, one at Taylor University, and two graduated and on their own. His daughter Ellie McConnell serves as the founder of Collected Counseling. A Colorado boy at heart, if you don’t see him around, he’s probably fly fishing, skiing, hiking, biking, and all that mountain stuff Tim loves.
